How many of us have played the God of war 2018? I guess every reader. We have seen the giant snake in the game known as The World Serpent. Whenever we see her, she always destroy Thor's statue which describes her hatred. But have you ever consider why they both hated each other? If you want to know then keep reading the post.

The world serpent also known as The Midgard Serpent and JORMUNGAND'R is one of the most famous creature in the Norse Mythology. This colossal monster is the child of Loki, the God of mischief and the Giantess Angroda. The serpent is one of the agents of chaos alongside her brother, the wolf Fenrir and her her sister Hel, the ruler of the world of the dead, niflheim. The Gods of Asgard, using their power powers, foresaw the evilness that the serpent and her brother and sister would bring to the world, and so the great Odin threw the serpent into the ocean that surrounded Midgard ( Earth). As time went by, Jormungand'r grew more and more each day. To the point where its size bounded the whole world. While completing the circle around Midgard, the serpent found her own tail and without knowing that it was hers, she bit herself with full strength. The creature when she swam, occurs large waves into the ocean that sank the vessels during the storms.
This powerful serpent was destined to fight against the Gods alongside her father during the Ragnarok. Jormungand'r was particularly hated by the God Thor and there were so many tales of alterations between both of them. The hatred begin when Thor with the comany of other Gods visited the land of Giants, Jotunheim, where they csme across the huge castle. The gates were so large that the combined forces of all the Gods was not enough to get them open. Luckily for Gods that the bar was so big that they could squeeze through them. After hearing that they had guest, the King of the castle told the Gods that if they expected his hospitality then they would first have to complete a series of tasks to impress him.  Thor was given the very first simple task of lifting the Kings pet cat from the ground. This task was so easy that even the children in the castle castle would do it. Despite of the immense power of Thor, he could not complete this task. Only managing to lift the cat's paw.  Back home in Asgard, Thor was considered more than capable of handling his drink and so the King challenged him to finish the castles great drinking horn. Once again Thor was unable to complete it because the level was barely fell below the rim.  After these failures, Thor was furious and demanded to fight the Kings best warrior. The King laughed and mocked Thor telling him the opponent which would be fare for Thor is the nurse of the castle. Thor eagerly accepted the challenge and began to wrestle with the old woman but even in this task he failed. The next morning when leaving the castle, the King confessed the truth that the task that he had given to the Gods of Asgard was tricked by enchantments (magic). The king's pet was actually Jormungand'r and he had pulled the great serpent from the ocean. The great drinking horn was actually connected from the midgard's ocean and he had nearly drank the whole sea. And the old woman was actually the old feat that no one could conquer. After hearing the truth, Thor angrily turned and swung the mjoln'r at the king but they were all vanished along with the castle. Thor swore revenge from the King and from the serpent but he had no idea where to find either of them. There are those who believe that the giant king was actually Loki in disguise attempting to unleash the serpent upen the world. After all Loki was a greatest trickster and his spells was so powerful that he can even fool Gods easily.

It wasn't long that Thor would stumbled across the giant named Hymer who agreed to take him fishing but Thor cam with him just to caught Jormungand'r. Thor finally caught the serpent and fought with him. When he was about to strike the serpent with his Mjoln'r, Hymer cut the line that tied the serpent and she escaped the very last moment. She swore that she would have her revenge during the Ragnarok and it happened.

During the battle, serpent searched for Thor to get her revenge on the field of battle. The struggle between the God of thunder and the colossal monster shook the world. The champion of Gods crushed the head of the serpent, putting an end to her life. However, due to the force of the blow, the serpent's pouch of venom exploded, and Thor was poisoned. The venom was so strong that even the powerful God cried out in pain before perishing on the battle field and so Jormungand'r accomplished her revenge.

The world serpent inspired the creation of so many legendary sea characters such as Kraken. The creature despite being popular in Norse Mythology, was not known by so public, but its appearance in the God of war 2018 helped the popularization of this amazing mythological creature.
